The Supreme Court is hearing emergency arguments on major issues facing the country.
Things are not going well for Democrats.
And Amy Coney Barrett handed Democrats a court defeat that had all hell breaking loose.
Tyrannical Democrat governors are using the coronavirus to flex their dictatorial muscles and punish their political enemies while imposing restrictions that put them in charge in nearly every aspect of Americans’ lives.
The number one target was shutting down church services.
As a surge in cases continues to accumulate, New York’s Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo tried to reimpose 10 and 25 person capacity limits on religious services.
The Roman Catholic Church and Orthodox Jewish communities in New York sued.
Last spring the court’s five liberal justices rejected a challenge to California and Nevada’s limit on attendance for religious services.
But now that Amy Coney Barrett replaced Ruth Bader Ginsburg the result was different and the court’s five conservative justices now blocked Governor Cuomo from putting these capacity limits in place.
Trump appointee Neil Gorsuch blasted Cuomo and other power-mad governors for claiming the Constitution became optional during a pandemic.
“It is time — past time — to make plain that, while the pandemic poses many grave challenges, there is no world in which the Constitution tolerates color-coded executive edicts that reopen liquor stores and bike shops but shutter churches, synagogues and mosques,” Justice Gorsuch wrote.
Justice Gorsuch also slammed Democrat Governors like Andrew Cuomo for setting different capacity limits on churches and other businesses that always lined up with the priorities of secular liberalism.
Chief Justice John Roberts once again dissented.
There was a school of thought that believed Roberts only sided with the liberals on key cases last year because he was fed up with Trump and now that the election was over Roberts would “come home” to conservatives.
“At the same time, the Governor has chosen to impose no capacity restrictions on certain businesses he considers ‘essential.’ And it turns out the businesses the Governor considers essential include hardware stores, acupuncturists, and liquor stores. Bicycle repair shops, certain signage companies, accountants, lawyers, and insurance agents are all essential too. So, at least according to the Governor, it may be unsafe to go to church, but it is always fine to pick up another bottle of wine, shop for a new bike, or spend the afternoon exploring your distal points and meridians. Who knew public health would so perfectly align with secular convenience?” Gorsuch added.
But Roberts’ dissent in this case made it clear he had done a complete 180 and was now a down-the-line liberal justice that the left could count on in every major case.
“It may well be that such restrictions violate the Free Exercise Clause. It is not necessary, however, for us to rule on that serious and difficult question at this time,” the Chief Justice wrote in a solo dissent. “The Governor might reinstate the restrictions. But he also might not. And it is a significant matter to override determinations made by public health officials concerning what is necessary for public safety in the midst of a deadly pandemic.”
