After every national tragedy, millions of Americans stand together in prayer.
This weeks’ shooting in Parkland, Florida was no different.
But one Democrat Senator just said something disgusting to attack every American praying for the victims.
One of the Democrats most vocal anti-gun voices is Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut.
His go-to “answer” for stopping gun violence in America is to make owning a gun virtually impossible.
So in response to the Florida school shooting that left 17 people dead, Murphy jumped to talk to CNN and give his input, before all of the facts were even known.
While speaking to CNN, Sen. Murphy declared: “The reason that I get angry when people send out thoughts and prayers and nothing else, they’re meaningless if you’re not willing to put action behind your faith.”
The “action” he is referring to is more gun control.
As reported by The Daily Caller:
“Democratic Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy said that thoughts and prayers are “meaningless” if not backed up by action on MSNBC’s “All In with Chris Hayes” Wednesday.
“The reason that I get angry when people send out thoughts and prayers and nothing else, they’re meaningless if you’re not willing to put action behind your faith,” Murphy said.
“So yeah, a lot of these Senators are really nice to the victims of gun violence when they come into their office. And then when they leave, they go back to the business of doing absolutely nothing. And that is infuriating to Melba, a good friend of mine.”
“That is infuriating to me. My hope is it is infuriating to the voters of Florida who decide to send somebody to Washington who recognize that Orlando, parkland are not inevitable. There’s a consequence of inaction. It’s a matter of changing representation to get a different outcome.””
Sen. Chris Murphy has been one of the leading cheerleaders for gun control since he got into office.
He has sponsored legislation to ban “assault weapons,” and has supported every piece of gun control that has come up while he was serving in the Senate.
In his mind, if you support the Second Amendment, your prayers are “meaningless” after a tragedy.
Sen. Murphy doesn’t seem to care that virtually every shooting that he has railed for more gun control in response has occurred in gun-free zones.
The Parkland, Florida shooting was no different.
Under Florida state law, guns are completely banned from school grounds:
2017 Florida Statute 790.115: Possessing or discharging weapons or firearms at a school-sponsored event or on school property prohibited; penalties; exceptions.
Guns are also highly restricted in school zones under the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990, which is still not as restrictive as Florida state law is when it relates to guns in school.
Despite these strict restrictions, the shooter was still able to commit his atrocities, and without the likelihood of armed resistance from a teacher, or other staff member.
Do you think that schools should be gun-free zones?
