Donald Trump and Fox News are not seeing eye to eye these days.
Fox News is among the elite institutions on the right looking for their Trump slayer in the GOP primary.
And Fox News just revealed which Republican it’s backing to defeat Donald Trump.
Donald Trump Jr. called out Fox News for being part of the establishment rallying around Nikki Haley.
JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon called on Democrats on Wall Street to donate to Haley in the GOP primary.
The pro-open borders, pro-soft-on-crime Americans for Prosperity Action super PAC endorsed Haley.
And Fox News shifted its programming to promote Haley.
In an appearance on Eric Bolling’s Newsmax show, Trump Jr. ridiculed Fox News for spending two years boosting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis only to drop DeSantis like a bad habit after his poll numbers tanked after entering the GOP race.
Trump Jr. explained that Haley – who supports the war in Ukraine, unlimited immigration and allowing woke corporations to flex their muscle in the culture wars – is the purest distillation of what the GOP establishment wants in a candidate.
That’s why Fox News – which is led by founder Rupert Murdoch and board member Paul Ryan – is so enthusiastically backing Haley.
“They see that over at Fox News. They gave Ron DeSantis the perpetual lap dance for two years, they realize he is not the guy, so now they’re going to Nikki Haley because they want someone that when they call, whether it’s good for the American people or not, if it serves their agenda, they ask, ‘How high would you like me to jump, Fox News, Rupert Murdoch, Paul Ryan, the board?’ Whatever it may be. It’s not about the American people, and the faster the American people understand that the quote, unquote ‘conservatives,’ even the conservatives out there from the billionaire class, don’t actually have anything to do with their best interests, the faster and better we’ll be off going forward as an America First movement,” Trump Jr. declared.
Editorial choices on Fox News confirmed those suspicions.
After DeSantis debated California Governor Gavin Newsom on Fox News in an event moderated by Sean Hannity, former Bush administration press secretary Ari Fleischer downplayed the contest as well as DeSantis’s performance.
Fleischer told viewers that DeSantis did nothing to move the needle against Trump and his personal conduct and body language came off poorly on camera.
“I don’t think that he closed the gap with Donald Trump tonight. It was a nice night for him and he did well and he had the facts on his side, but when you look at the purpose of him being there, which is to win a presidential race, I just don’t think he closed the gap,” Fleischer stated.
“I’d give DeSantis a B+ in the way he handled the facts. I would give him a B- because he hardly ever looked Gavin Newsom in the eye, and if you’re going to be strong, you need to look at your opponent in the eye. He did it occasionally, but you need to do it always,” Fleischer added.
If Murdoch and Ryan thought DeSantis was still the best chance to defeat Trump, then Fox News would have hyped the debate to no end as a game-changing event.
This would have the added benefit of pumping up Fox News as a kingmaker on whose programming any Republican who dreams of a future in GOP politics must appear on.
But since the GOP establishment views Haley as the last chance to stop Trump, Fox News downplayed the significance of the debate their own network televised.
