Donald Trump holds a virtually insurmountable lead in the GOP primary.
The real drama in the race looks like trying to figure out who Trump will select as his running mate.
And now the rumor is Donald Trump is planning to pick this surprising Republican as his vice president.
Several Republicans floated trial balloons about Trump picking them as vice president.
Some were popped immediately by the base such as the preposterous notion that Trump would pick pro-abortion RINO Nancy Mace to round out the ticket.
The newest potential Trump VP selection was far better received.
And that was Dr. Ben Carson, who ran for president in 2016 and served as Trump’s secretary of Housing and Urban Development.
Sources close to Trump are claiming that Ben Carson is the leading pick for Vice President.
Umm, why?
Don’t get me wrong. I love Ben Carson. Absolutely great guy, but he’s alway seemed a bit dull to me.
If we’re going for a Black male as VP I’m all in on that idea, but why not…

Carson became a household name after delivering a takedown of Barack Obama’s identity politics-focused socialism right to Obama’s face during a speech at the 2013 National Prayer Breakfast.
The word “woke” didn’t exist at the time but Carson called out what came to be known as the woke mob for trying to cancel Americans for saying “Merry Christmas” to their fellow citizens.
“The P.C. police are out in force at all times. I remember once I was talking about the difference between a human brain and a dog’s brain and a man got offended. You can’t talk about dogs like that. People focus in on that, completely miss the point of what you’re saying. And we’ve reached the point where people are afraid to actually talk about what they want to say because somebody might be offended. People are afraid to say Merry Christmas at Christmas time. Doesn’t matter whether the person you’re talking to is Jewish or, you know, whether they’re any religion. That’s a salutation, a greeting of goodwill. We’ve got to get over this sensitivity. You know, and it keeps people from saying what they really believe,” Carson declared.
Carson also attacked the out-of-control spending of the Obama years as Obama sought to fundamentally transform America into a socialist nation.
“And our National Debt – $16.5 Trillion dollars – you think that’s not a lot of money? I’ll tell you what! Count one number per second, which you can’t even do because once you get to a thousand it will take you longer than a second, but…one number per second. You know how long it would take you to count to 16 Trillion? 507,000 years – more than a half a million years to get there. We have to deal with this,” Carson continued.
Carson then ran for president in 2016 where he became a well-liked candidate with his unassuming demeanor and willingness to call out the left with the disarming manner he used with patients.
For one moment in time Carson even eclipsed Trump for first place in the primary polls of GOP voters.
One of the emerging storylines of the 2022 election is the realignment of the electorate along the lines of education and class.
Working-class black voters – specifically black men – are increasingly finding a home in the Republican Party as the backlash to the Democrats’ laser-like focus on issues like open borders, abortion and culture war issues alienates formerly loyal voters who don’t see much in the party’s new agenda for them.
A New York Times/Siena poll of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin showed Trump winning 22 percent of the black vote.
Trump could choose Dr. Ben Carson as his running mate as play for black voters.
At the age of 33 Dr. Carson became the youngest head of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins in 1984.
In 1987 Carson pioneered a surgery to separate twins conjoined at the head.
These are monumental accomplishments that predated Carson’s career in politics.
Nominees pick their running mates based on geography or the ability to attract a new base of voters.
And the latter is what Trump may have in mind by considering Dr. Ben Carson as his running mate.
