Joe Biden’s dreams of winning a second term just hit a big roadblock.
No one ever expected the source of trouble would come from one loyal ally.

Republicans fell short of expectations in the 2022 midterm elections.
Democrats defied history and expectations by picking up two governors’ mansions and a Senate seat in the midterm elections.
But there were some silver linings for Republicans and growing storm clouds for Democrats.
One massive flashing red light for Joe Biden’s re-election campaign was the fact that Republicans grew their share of the black vote from eight percent in the 2018 midterms to 14 percent in 2022 according to the Associated Press’s VoteCast.
Democrats count on winning at least 90 percent of the black vote as the backbone of their national coalition and Republicans winning 14 percent would imperil Biden and Democrat senators running for re-election in 2024.
“If that boost can be sustained, Democrats could face headwinds in 2024 in Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, where presidential and Senate races are typically decided by narrow margins and turning out Black voters is a big part of Democrats’ political strategy,” the Associated Press reported.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is one of the Republicans who significantly improved his margin with black voters.
In 2018 Kemp defeated Democrat Stacey Abrams by just 50,000 votes while winning just five percent of the black vote.
But in 2022 Kemp easily dispatched Abrams by eight points and increased his percentage of black voters won to 12 percent.
The Associated Press reported that black voters picked Kemp over concerns about education and their turn towards socialism.
Atlanta resident Janet Piroleau cited the Democrats’ embrace of big-government welfare programs as leading her to choose Kemp.
“That bothered me,” Piroleau told the Associated Press.
“For me, it was about being accountable and responsible and making your own decisions, and not depending on the government to bail you out,” Piroleau added.
April Chapman said the Democrats’ support for government-run schools proved decisive.
“For our family, the government educational system was not the best option,” Chapman stated.
The Democrat Party are beholden to the teachers’ unions.
And in 2020 and 2021 Democrats closed schools during the COVID pandemic because teachers’ union bosses didn’t want to go to work.
But closing schools proved disastrous for children as lockdowns and mask mandates stunted emotional and educational development.
The current state of American politics is that each party’s coalition is roughly equal and national elections are won with razor-thin margins.
In 2016 Donald Trump won the presidency by about 80,000 votes across three states.
In 2020 Joe Biden’s margin was roughly 45,000 votes across three states.
If Republicans increase their share of the black vote in 2024 as they did in 2022 Democrats could be staring at a White House and Senate wipeout.
