Democrats got some bad news about Donald Trump.
One of the left’s plans to derail Trump just got foiled.
And that’s because the Supreme Court delivered a game-changing win for Donald Trump that is all about 2024.
When Democrats won control of Congress in 2018 one of their prime goals was to throw sand in the gears of Trump’s re-election campaign by manufacturing scandals.
Democrats knew their allies in the corporate press uncritically publish whatever Democrats say so any cockamamie allegation of wrongdoing Democrats hurled at Trump got treated as fact by the liberal activists in the press.
One of the top areas to conjure up the appearance of scandal was Donald Trump’s tax returns.
Trump did not release his tax returns in 2016 under advice from his lawyers because he was under audit.
There was no legal obligation for Trump to make ten years of tax returns public as presidential candidates since George Romney in 1968 did.
The American people clearly did not care about access to Trump’s tax returns as they elected him president.
But for years Democrats and their handmaidens in the media fantasized about Trump’s tax returns containing evidence of either criminality or the smoking gun payment that proved Vladimir Putin and Trump conspired to steal the 2016 election.
When the Democrat majority took over in 2019 the House Ways and Means Committee used an obscure 1928 law to vote to order the Treasury Department to hand over Trump’s tax returns.
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin declined explaining that the request has no legislative purpose.
But once Joe Biden took over circumstances changed and the administration eagerly sought to weaponize private tax information to hurt Joe Biden’s chief political rival.
Lower courts ruled in the Democrats’ favor.
But Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts blocked the Treasury Department from forking over Trump’s tax returns and set a date for a new hearing.
“Upon consideration of the application of counsel for the applicants, it is so ordered that the mandate of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, case No. 21-5289, is hereby stayed pending further order of the undersigned or of the court,” Roberts wrote.
House Democrat Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal clearly was telling a falsehood when he claimed Congress needed immediate access to Trump’s tax returns to assess the effectiveness of the presidential audit program.
“We’ve waited long enough—we must begin our oversight of the IRS’s mandatory presidential audit program as soon as possible,” Neal ranted.
Democrats want Trump’s tax returns to mine them for any embarrassing details they can use to take the news focus off Trump framing a potential 2024 re-election campaign as a contrast between Trump’s achievements and Joe Biden’s failures.
This will allow the press to dwell in the arena of fake scandals and make Americans think if they re-elect Trump it will be four more years of drama.
But the Supreme Court hit Democrats with a curveball that could end all of that.
