Donald Trump is still the leader of the Republican Party.
That’s why his supporters can’t understand what is going on.
And now Donald Trump dropped out of a 2024 race that left his supporters scratching their heads.
In 2022 RINO Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell cut off conservative candidates at the knees by badmouthing them in the press, turning off the funds for TV ads, and by cutting deals with Joe Biden on gun control, the Green New Deal, and socialist spending thereby eliminating the ability of Republicans to say Biden was a failure.
When Trump-endorsed candidates lost in Arizona, Pennsylvania and Georgia, McConnell then turned around and blamed “candidate quality” for the GOP losses.
In 2024 McConnell is determined to win back the Senate by recruiting establishment-friendly RINOs in red states like Montana and West Virginia.
But critical to this plan succeeding is Donald Trump staying out of those races and not endorsing conservative challengers to McConnell’s handpicked RINOs.
And it looks like that is exactly what Trump is planning to do.
Trump reportedly has told conservative Congressman Matt Rosendale of Montana and Alex Mooney of West Virginia that he will stay out of their races against McConnell-recruited RINOs Tim Sheehy and Jim Justice.
“Donald Trump recently delivered the news to Rep. Matt Rosendale: He wouldn’t win the former president’s coveted endorsement if he runs in the GOP primary for the US Senate seat in Montana, according to a Trump ally, a decision with major implications in the high-stakes battle for control of the Senate,” CNN exclusively reported.
“In West Virginia, Trump privately suggested to Rep. Alex Mooney that he is unlikely to back him in the Senate GOP primary over Gov. Jim Justice, the candidate backed by Republican leaders, in part because of his loyalty to the West Virginia governor, something the House conservative confirmed to CNN after meeting with Trump twice and seeking his endorsement,” the CNN report read.
Much of Trump’s desire to sit out these stems from the fact that the conservative Club for Growth is planning to support Mooney and Rosendale.
Trump is furious that the Club for Growth is opposing his presidential bid, so he won’t endorse Mooney and Rosendale even though Trump backed them in their previous races.
“The filing appears to show a link to the influential Club for Growth, which over the last year has come out aggressively against the former president. The outfit’s designated agent is the Club for Growth’s president, David McIntosh. Win it Back PAC’s treasurer, Adam Rozansky, has the same role with the Club for Growth,” POLITICO reported.
But sitting out these races could backfire on Trump.
If McConnell-supported RINOs win they are likely to stick with the establishment and oppose Trump’s agenda if Trump wins a second term.
McConnell is also desperate to get rid of Trump so if Trump wins and the Democrats impeach him the McConnell-backed Senate RINOs are likely to vote to convict Trump so the GOP can go back to the days of Mitt Romney and John McCain.
