The Democrat Party’s legal and political headaches just exploded.
There is no denying this crisis.
And one Democrat senator is facing criminal charges for the most disgusting act you can imagine.
Federal prosecutors filed a superseding indictment against New Jersey Democrat Senator Bob Menendez.
Prosecutors already indicted Menendez, his wife Nadine, and three businessmen in a bribery scheme.
Now the Department of Justice charged Menendez with acting as an unregistered foreign agent of the Egyptian government.
The indictment alleges Menendez traded political favors for bribes which prosecutors claim came in the form of $480,000 in cash, $100,000 in gold bars and a brand-new $60,000 Mercedes-Benz.
“[Menendez] further promised to take and took a series of acts on behalf of Egypt, including on behalf of Egyptian military and intelligence officials, and conspired to do so with [Will Hana] and [Menendez’s wife Nadine Menendez], the defendants, who also communicated requests and directives from Egyptian officials to MENENDEZ,” the indictment read.
The indictment described a scene from 2018 where Menendez met with an unnamed Egyptian official in his Senate office and passed along to the Egyptian government sensitive information about the U.S. Embassy.
“Later that same day, Menendez sought from the State Department non-public information regarding the number and nationality of persons serving at the US Embassy in Cairo, Egypt,” the indictment continued. “Although, this information was not classified, it was deemed highly sensitive because it could pose significant operational security concerns if disclosed to a foreign government or made public.”
The indictment also pointed out Menendez wrote two letters to the Department of Justice demanding criminal charges against a former member of Congress for allegedly violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
“The Act is clear that acting directly or indirectly in any capacity on behalf of a foreign principal triggers the requirement to register under FARA,” Menendez wrote in one of the letters. The indictment alleged Menendez also wrote to the Department of Justice that if the former member of Congress “carried out work that requires registration under FARA, it is imperative that the Justice Department ensure he is held to account.”
This is the latest shoe to drop in this massive scandal.
The first was the original indictment.
Then came the reports that Menendez’s wife may have received favorable treatment from police thanks to political intervention at the scene of a car accident where she killed a man crossing the street.
Now comes a new indictment containing new criminal allegations that a sitting United States senator acted against the interests of America for financial gain.
