Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s frustrations with the way the 2024 race played out finally reached a boiling point.
DeSantis blew his stack.
Ron DeSantis went ballistic on Donald Trump for the last reason anyone would have guessed.
Twelve months ago, Ron DeSantis was coming off a historic 19-point re-election victory.
DeSantis bet big on his opposition to COVID lockdowns and mandates to win big.
Donald Trump’s endorsed candidates lost multiple Senate and gubernatorial elections.
Some polls even showed DeSantis leading Trump.
DeSantis looked like the future.
But things can change quickly in politics.
Now polls show Donald Trump crushing DeSantis – whose presidential campaign fizzled out – by more than 30 points in Iowa, which DeSantis must win in order to continue.
DeSantis’s campaign belly-flopped for numerous reasons.
When Alvin Bragg indicted Donald Trump, DeSantis initially took the opportunity to mock Trump for being a moral reprobate instead of forcefully condemning the Democrats weaponizing the government against their opponents.
DeSantis later would whine that the real problem with Democrats filing politically motivated indictments against the leading Republican candidate for president was that it hurt his chances of beating Trump.
The Florida governor also found himself stepping on a rake over Ukraine.
DeSantis initially told Tucker Carlson he believed the war between Russia and Ukraine was a “territorial dispute” and not in the strategic interests of the United States.
Establishment RINOs like Texas Senator John Cornyn and big-money donors complained and within days DeSantis reversed course and sounded that he endorsed regime change in Russia claiming Vladimir Putin was a war criminal who needed to be held accountable.
DeSantis also gave a wishy-washy debate answer where he tried to straddle the fence on Joe Biden’s demand for billions more in taxpayer money to fund the failed war in Ukraine.
But DeSantis had a different take on events.
At a sparsely attended campaign event in Iowa, DeSantis blamed his campaign’s failure to catch fire on Fox News not endorsing him against Trump.
“I mean, that’s just the reality. And we got to hold him accountable. Like, you know, this idea that like all these conservative radio guys and Fox News people like, you know, they will like never criticize because they’re so concerned that someone may yell at them. Look, anyone running for office answers to you, you have every right to hold these people accountable and you should hold him accountable when he’s taking those positions that are not consistent with the values here in northwest Iowa,” DeSantis stated.
Fox News being in the tank for Trump was an odd charge.
The network banned Trump from the air for over six months.
During that time Fox News booked DeSantis more than 100 times.
After the midterm elections, network founder Rupert Murdoch reportedly told Trump he would no longer support his White House campaign.
DeSantis’s campaign looks like it won’t turn out the way he thought.
But the least of DeSantis’s problems was Fox News.
