Republicans finally settled on a new speaker of the House.
Now conservatives are scrambling.
And Sean Hannity discovered something shocking about the new speaker of the House.
Opposition in the Republican Party – as well as the broader electorate – grows against Joe Biden’s blank check for the war in Ukraine.
In September, 93 members of the House GOP voted against new Ukraine funding and a CNN poll showed 55 percent of Americans oppose sending one more dime of taxpayer money to the sinkhole that is Joe Biden’s failing adventure in Europe.
When Republicans selected Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson as speaker of the House, conservatives cheered as Johnson voted against Ukraine funding from the very start even when the media and D.C. swamp fired up the bandwagon for war against Russia.
But now that Johnson sits in the big seat his tune is shifting.
In an interview with Sean Hannity, Johnson sounded like Mitch McConnell or Mitt Romney when he pushed the baseless claim that spending another $60 billion to secure Ukraine’s border would deter Communist China from invading Taiwan.
Johnson did express opposition to Joe Biden’s $106 billion slush fund for the war in Ukraine, aid to Israel and taxpayer money to Hamas.
And Johnson did say there needed to be accountability from the administration on how the corrupt government in Ukraine handled American money.
But Johnson still sung from the swamp’s hymn sheet when he baselessly claimed defending Ukraine is in America’s vital interest.
“I agree with your assessment in Ukraine, and that’s why the American people are demanding some real accountability for the use of those dollars. Now, we can’t allow Vladimir Putin to prevail in Ukraine because I don’t believe it would stop there and it would probably encourage and empower China to perhaps make a move on Taiwan. We have these concerns. We’re not going to abandon them. But we have a responsibility, a stewardship responsibility, over the precious treasure of the American people,” Johnson stated.
The worst thing for America is a depleting arsenal which Joe Biden is doing as the military worries America is running low on long-range missiles and certain caliber shells.
An empty cupboard will only serve to tempt Communist China to make a move on Taiwan thinking that America is tied down in a fruitless stalemate in Europe.
Johnson did sound a hopeful note that there is a time limit on American money to Ukraine as Johnson said the administration needed to lay out its strategy and objectives in the war.
“And we have to make sure that the White House is providing the people with some accountability for the dollars. And we want to know what the objective there is. What is the endgame in Ukraine? The White House has not provided that. I was at the White House for a couple of hours today and I told the staff there that this is where we are. This is where the House Republicans are,” Johnson continued.
But that hope faded away when Johnson said RINO Congressman Dan Crenshaw – who supports red flag confiscation laws and is a stalwart defender of Liz Cheney – plans to lay out the questions Joe Biden needs to answer.
“It’s a great concern,” Johnson continued. “We’ve got a group of our colleagues here in the House led by Mike Garcia out of California, a brilliant legislator and a Top Gun pilot. And some of our veterans have gotten together, [Dan] Crenshaw is involved in this and others. They came up with a document that presents twelve critical questions for the White House to answer as a condition of our supplying the additional support. These are not hard questions, Sean. These are things the White House should be forthcoming about. I delivered that myself.”
Republican voters are growing frustrated with the war in Ukraine because it shows the priorities of Joe Biden and establishment RINOs like McConnell and Romney.
They will beat their chest about the fight in Ukraine while following through on vows that the Ukrainians will bleed the United States Treasury and armory dry to deter Russia’s invasion.
But there is no urgency or political will to solve the problem of the wide-open southern border even though a record 268,000 illegal aliens crossed into America during the month of September.
Conservatives hoped electing Mike Johnson as speaker of the House would be the start of a course correction in that regard.
Johnson’s first interview shows that sadly may not be the case.
