Adam Schiff thought it was smooth sailing in his campaign for Senate out in California.
But Schiff is confronting an unexpected crisis.
And Adam Schiff was stunned when a pregnant woman broke him this devastating news.
38-year-old KTLA and Fox 11 news anchor Christina Pascucci became the latest Democrat to throw her hat in the ring to replace the late Dianne Feinstein.
In an interview with POLITICO, Pascucci attempted to pitch herself to voters as a consensus-building centrist.
“I’ve been covering the most pressing issues of California for the past 15 years and watching this race closely, as well as covering it and interviewing some of the candidates,” Pascucci stated. “And the more I watched it, the more closely I studied it, I honestly felt dismayed by how it was shaping up. I spoke to a lot of others who felt the same way. Like, this is our future — more of the same.”
Pascucci told POLITICO that she is especially concerned with “the humanitarian crisis happening at our border,” warning that Democrats are terrified to talk about immigration enforcement to avoid alienating that base that believes enforcing the nation’s laws amounts to white supremacy.
The rookie candidate also attempted to burnish her moderate bona fides by telling voters she was raised by conservative parents and that her model senators were Feinstein and Never Trump RINO Mitt Romney.
“I spent my life and my upbringing learning to speak the language of people who disagree with me,” Pascucci continued. “A lot of times people don’t even try and they just say, ‘They’re extreme.’ That is the worst thing you can do. That is the intent of disinformation: To polarize us. The only way to combat that is by going in, sitting down and talking it out. And that’s what I’ve been trained to do as a journalist.”
The California Senate race suddenly got very interesting.
A recent poll showed Schiff in first place with 20 percent, Democrat Congresswoman Katie Porter nipping at his heels with 17 percent and Democrat Congresswoman Barabra Lee earning seven percent support.
But former Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres All Star Steve Garvey entered the race as a Republican giving him a chance to consolidate the GOP vote.
That becomes important because due to California rules, all candidates enter the same primary and the top two vote getters advance to the General Election no matter what party they belong to.
Lee, Schiff and Porter are all running as left-wing extremists of varying stripes.
Schiff won Nancy Pelosi’s endorsement and is the candidate for urban liberals.
Porter is running as the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez-style grassroots leftist.
And Lee positioned herself as the champion for woke leftists obsessed with race and gender.
Pascucci likely sees a chance to appeal to moderate Democrats that don’t support the squad and think crime and homelessness is out of control.
Her long career as news anchor in the state’s largest TV market gives Pascucci instant name recognition.
Kari Lake parlayed her notoriety as a well-known anchor from a major TV market into a victory in the Arizona GOP gubernatorial primary.
Pascucci thinks she could run a similar playbook to victory while her opponents divvy up the leftwing vote.
