Donald Trump and the GOP got some bad news.
It came from an unlikely source.
And the Supreme Court devastated Trump with this ruling that guarantees defeat in 2024.
This June the Supreme Court ruled that Alabama’s congressional map – which the state legislature drew to feature six Republican-leaning districts and one Democrat stronghold – violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act prohibition against racially discriminatory voting rights practices.
The justices held that the state’s black population was sufficiently large enough to warrant two majority-minority districts.
After another court battle, a three-judge panel on the United States District Court of Northern Alabama selected a new map that handed the Democrats a second district redrawing one that was 29 percent more Republican than Democrat (R +12) to a D+12 Democrat seat.
“In the light of the submissions received by the Special Master, the comments and submissions in response to his Report & Recommendation, and after extensive analysis, we conclude that Remedial Plan 3 completely remedies the likely Section Two violation we identified while best preserving the State’s legislative preferences, as expressed through the 2023 Plan, and otherwise complies with the requirements of the Constitution and the Voting Rights Act of 1965,” the judges’ opinion read.
Democrats couldn’t contain their glee over this ruling.
Former President Barack Obama cheered the ruling and touted it as a major success for the National Redistricting Foundation – a radical left-wing group that files lawsuits to pressure courts into redrawing maps to cement permanent Democrat Party control of the House of Representatives.
“Alabama has a new, fairer congressional map that gives Black voters an equal opportunity to elect a candidate of their choice.” Obama wrote. “This is a historic win for voting rights and democracy, and it happened thanks to the hard work of Black voters, advocates, and organizations like @RedistrictFdn.”
Obama made the redistricting fight the centerpiece of his post-presidency agenda because Democrats only believe a fair election and a fair system is one where they are guaranteed to win and there are no checks and balances on their power.
Democrats hope to use this precedent to challenge Republican-drawn maps in states like Georgia, Florida and Louisiana to have the courts demand new maps that create enough new Democrat seats to hand the left the victory in the battle for Congress before one ballot is cast.
Going into the election, Democrats only need to flip five Republican-held seats in Congress to control the majority.
The Alabama ruling reduces that number to four.
If Democrats can use the justice system to draw 218 Democrat-leaning seats then that’s the ball game.
Even if Donald Trump wins the presidential election the outcome will be close enough that Trump’s win won’t produce coattails long enough to allow Republicans to keep the majority in the House.
A Democrat majority means Trump’s agenda is dead on arrival and impeachment hearings will begin before Trump even takes office as the new Congress is sworn in weeks before the inauguration.
